THE DREAM

•We request that the Governor assemble an inquiry panel which will examine and enforce remedy to the human rights crisis in KDOC.

•We are also seeking legislation to make oversight permanent and create an ombudsman as well as establish standards of humane treatment.

•We seek the repeal of those laws that impede access to courts for prisoners.

•We advise that KDOC no longer be allowed to criminally investigate itself.

We dream of safer communities, healthier families, where fathers and mothers return to their children whole and unbroken, mentally well, and fit to work, and a safer workplace for corrections workers, where they are not forced to endure these same inhumane conditions, suffer violence, and turn a blind eye to corruption or lose their livelihood. We dream of a better Kansas where a man or woman willing to work to improve themselves, can.

We want, first and foremost, basic human rights, dignity, and rehabilitation for those who are paying their debt to society. It is the prisons that teach these men and women how to treat others, and themselves when they are released.  We have got to change things now, from the ground up.
